Agnès Varda (1928-2019) was born in Ixelles, Belgium, and grew up in Sète (France) before moving to Paris to study photography. In 1949, she accompanied the director Jean Vilar and became the official photographer of the Théâtre National Populaire company. The artist has directed numerous films (La Pointe Courte, in 1954, Cléo de 5 à 7 in 1961, Jane B. by Agnès V. in 1987) and documentaries (Black Panthers, in 1968, L’univers de Jacques Demy, in 1995, Varda by Agnès in 2019). Throughout her career, she mixes genres, crossing reality and fiction, short and feature films. Her photographic work has been exhibited all over the world (France, Italy, United Kingdom, Russia…).
