Fiona Rogers, curator of Elles x Paris Photo, has designed a path to follow focusing on 38 artists selected from the galleries present at the Grand Palais Ephémère. This programme, initiated in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, is supported by Kering Women In Motion. It has enabled the amount of women artists represented at the show to increase from 20% to 36% in 5 years.

FIONA ROGERS, CURATOR OF ELLES x PARIS PHOTO 2023
"There is a theory that somehow, all art is personal, and that the process and experience of making is an extension of ourselves. In this year’s Elles x Paris Photo pathway, I’ve chosen to focus on artists for whom this statement rings resoundingly true. In this selection we can discover contemporary and historic photographers, both established and emerging, who draw on their personal experiences and intricate identities as women, migrants, gender-queer, mothers, daughters, and lovers, to create original artworks which reflect their lives, and the lives of others.
Photography is a medium entangled within a historically complex power dynamic, but these artists expand on the concept of photography to challenge ‘otherness’ and provide a more equitable way of looking, representing and recording. Through their artistic expression, we are exposed to a myriad of themes: from identity to politics, history, culture, relationships, and sexuality. These artists present a provocation to photography’s history, adopting creative approaches to express emotions, process trauma and advocate for change."
